We realize that the upcoming election is a source of excitement for some but may also be a source of dread for others. We want to provide the opportunity for us to come together and focus on the election results or to join with others and be distracted from them. ASSP and the Wellness Committee will be hosting three Zoom rooms. one for viewing the election results, one for playing games with others, and one for talking socializing. There is no sign up required and everyone is free to join leave rooms as they feel inclined, but we hope this can be a connecting event for everyone! Also, if you would like to host your own room with its own theme or topic e.g. favorite Netflix shows, favorite sports/teams, hobbies/interests, etc. please fill out the associated section in the interest form! ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting -MCM- is the largest gathering of pharmacists in the world, and is attended by over 25,000 pharmacy professionals each year! NHPA is very excited to welcome Dr. Maria Hearns-Rivas, the current President of NHPA and ambulatory care clinical pharmacist at Kaiser Permanente, Napa Solano. Students will learn about clinical interventions they can make as ambulatory care pharmacists and how to best prevent cardiovascular complications. This will be a great application of current material for P1 students, and a nice review for P2 students. There will also be an opportunity to ask Dr. Hearns-Rivas questions about her career path and her experience as an ambulatory care pharmacist at Kaiser.

Are you interested in learning Spanish medical terminology? NHPA invites all learners to join us at our Spanish Lunch Talk Basics 101. Do you remember what goes into a letter of intent for residency or fellowship applications? The Office of Career and Professional Development - OCPD and PLS are pleased to provide current pharmacy students -e.g. P3s and P4s- a refresher workshop centered on writing letters of intent! The workshop will be held on Thursday, November 12th from 6:30-7:30 PM on Zoom. In this interactive refresher workshop led by OCPD career counselors, we will be going over an overview of the purpose, format, and structure for each paragraph of the letter of intent. We will also be providing examples and going over the common mistakes people make. Come ready to learn and talk with your peers to review how to craft and tailor a letter of intent for your upcoming pharmacy residency or fellowship applications. Following the event, we will provide attendees with resources to help them continue writing their letters of intent.

Join our Research Series lunch talk with special guest Dr. Gary Fong, PharmD, current Assistant Professor at Chapman University in Irvine, CA. Dr. Fong is a UCSF Alumni who completed a pharmacy practice residency at UCSF Medical Center and then a clinical fellowship in Infectious Diseases at Baylor St. Luke Medical Center in the University of Houston College of Pharmacy in Texas. He has research interests in areas of antifungal resistance and PK PD, as well as clinical outcomes and educational improvement. Bring your questions about residency and fellowship, and be ready to learn how pharmacists fit in an interdisciplinary team!

Come participate in the ACCP Clinical Research Challenge local qualifier to represent UCSF on Nov. 21! This novel competition is targeted towards pharmacy students to practice critically evaluating and applying primary literature. Teams of three pharmacy students participate in an online journal club and have the opportunity to submit a letter of intent and a clinical research proposal. Competitors can win up to 1500 dollars and have the opportunity to present their research proposal at ACCP Annual Meeting. UCSF team who placed 3rd among 86 other pharmacy schools in the nation will be attending the info session on Oct. 23 to speak about their experience and answer questions, and SCCP will be holding a preparation session on Nov. 6th with example questions.

Dr. Bani Tamraz is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at UCSF, where he completed his Pharm.D. degree and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacogenomics. His primary interest lies in a patient-centric approach to pharmacogenomics PGx research and the use of PGx to optimize patient therapy, which he will be speaking more about at this event. This series of educational webinars is designed to aid physicians, physician assistants, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, certified public health professionals, other health care professionals, and students, to provide better patient care by knowing how to find relevant FDA regulatory information that will improve drug safety. This webinar will provide an overview of the evolution of prescribing information PI format and content, key regulations impacting drug interaction DI content in the PI, and the regulatory science behind including essential DI information in the PI. In addition, alternative display methods to enhance readability and utility as well as unique DI related content e.g., in vitro information, modeling and simulation, and complex DI scenarios will also be discussed.
